Description
The Mackinac Bridge on the Straits of Mackinac affords one an amazing view of the Straits of Mackinac, connecting lake Huron to Lake Michigan . The bridge connects Michigan's lower and upper Peninsula .
It is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. All suspension bridges are designed to move to accommodate wind, change in temperature, and weight. It is possible that the deck at center span could move as much as 35 feet (east or west) It is quite an engineering marvel ... some folks are afraid to drive over it, but it is always a beautiful sight no matter what the weather . I have other photos of the bridge that are unprocessed but I wanted to give this photo a bit of a painterly effect ...going to my roots. I love the way it looks on a mug .
