Description
Poppies mean a lot of things to different people, they are strong and full of mystery. There are poems written about them and they contain the makings of a strong narcotic. Dorothy and her companions from the wizard of Oz fell asleep in a field of poppies. In Greek mythology, the poppy was associated with Demeter, goddess of fertility and agriculture, and we remember our veterans by putting a poppy in our lapel.
I wanted to evoke some of these feeling when I painted this landscape of a poppy field, I wanted the viewer to feel like they could just start tumbling down through those flowers and maybe not make it all the way before they fell fast asleep. Inviting and intoxicating.
